An Old Fashioned Clean
That Really Sparkles

About Miss Sparkle

My name is Gailann Kimbrough. I live and work in Maynard, MA.
After 25 years in high-tech, corporate, I’ve commenced my encore career as, of all things, a domestic assistant. I’ve decided I’m happiest when cleaning, polishing, tending, cooking, and keeping house.
While I expect to secure work primarily as a cleaner, I’m happy to clean your children’s room, help you sort through that spare bedroom, attic, garage or basement, give your house the once over before a big event and even have dinner waiting for your family when you all return after a long day at work and/or school.
So what brings me to this decision?
Where to begin…
Gailann Kimbrough, born in the 50’s, raised in Worcester and Lawrence MA until I was nine when we relocated to Maine – Bangor Maine. We lived there until I was twelve – that brought a move to England for four years. After England we came back to the US for a little state hopping – Kansas, New Mexico, Ohio, Washington State, California then Arizona. It is worth mentioning I went from being a military kid to a military wife thus all the state hopping. Nestled in the middle of all that travel was a year and a half in Mexico.
In Mexico I learned the fine art of using a lavadora (nice word for hand washing done in a deep concrete sink with a built in washboard). I was tickled pink when my husband brought home a wringer washing machine one day – ah the joy of modern conveniences!
But I digress…
After a year and a half in Mexico, we moved back to Arizona and then I moved with my two daughters, aged three and four at the time, back to Massachusetts. I was quite young when we left New England but my heart always resided here and I was pleased beyond words to move back in the early 80’s.
So what happens when you move to Maynard in the 80’s? You get a job at Dec! And so started my career in corporate America and later in corporate International. Prior to Digital Equipment Corp, I’d dallied in secretarial work, store work, cleaning, teaching, upholstery and various other odds and sods….
In the mid-80’s love called and the girls and I moved to England (new husband being British and all). There I stayed for the next 16 years working for Dec/Compaq before moving to a big telecoms company in London. In 2001 I decided to relocate back to the US. Before leaving the UK I was hired by a big technical services company for a position that was US based. They were looking for my skill set coupled with the Anglo/US experience and I fit the bill.
That brings me to today. Along came – The Global Realignment Initiative! Nice way of saying, it was fun but we don’t need you anymore – thank you very much.
Burned-out and fed-up with corporate life, I’ve decided it is time for a change. And I’ve decided what better change than to do the things for you, which you need done so you can do the corporate thing for a while! (do I need to put a smiley face here?)
So, what qualifications do I bring to this new venture? Well I come from a long line of make-do people. Need a dress for the dance? You make one or better still you make one over. Birthday parties happen in the back-yard, parties happen in the living room, the catering is a combination of helpful hands from family and friends. Stains are treated with tried and tested solutions – and there is no shortage of elbow grease. From haircuts to pedicures, new curtains to a change of wallpaper, you just get on with it in my family.
Cleaning, cooking, ironing, washing, sewing… whatever it takes to keep a household ticking over, I’ll happily help you out!
Oh, did I mention that I’m an award winning cook – wouldn’t you just love to come home to a fresh clean house with a bubbling casserole in your oven?
